Buying Seafood Online

What is the best day to order fresh seafood?
Most of the fresh fish and shellfish we supply is caught wild, out at sea. This is the best way to get top quality and freshness but it does depend on the weather - and bad weather can happen any day of the week! In bad weather, it is dangerous for boats to set off from Kilmore Quay so they have no choice but to stay a shore and wait for calmer waters. Given that, Tuesday or Wednesday is usually the best day for availability for some reason!
-
How do I know how much to buy?
Well, this really depends on the appetites of the people who will be eating it but a good guideline is:
Fish fillets : 200g per person
Whole fish : 450g per person - allowing for bones etc.
Mussels in the shell : 450g per person
-
Do you always have the same fish available?
We will always have a good stock of high quality farmed salmon, trout and sea bass but one of the exciting things about wild seafood is that we never really know what the catch is going to bring on any given day. Our years of experience in supplying demanding chefs across Ireland have given us a good idea of what to expect though and we update our stocking levels on the site so that you can tell at the time of ordering too.

How will my seafood arrive?
Your fish and shellfish will arrive fresh and in good condition, ready for you to prepare and enjoy. We pack your order very carefully in specially insulating materials to keep them at the right temperature during the journey to your door.
-
Will there be bones in my fish?
If you ordered a fillet, darne or portion, then the bones will be removed as much as is possible. Please do be careful though as sometimes small pin bones can be missed - run your hand along the fish before preparation to feel for bones and remove with a tweezer or by hand.
