Sustainability
Our Sustainability Promise
At Atlantis of Kilmore Quay, we all know how important it is to protect our waters and the fish that live and grow in them for now and for future generations.
Sustainability is at the heart of our business. As we see it, it has to be. If we don’t carefully mind our fish stocks and their environment, what will we have to supply to our customers?
We believe in sourcing our seafood from trusted fishermen who operate to world-class standards, making sure we always know exactly where each fish comes from, how it was reared or caught and sharing that information with you.
Fishery Improvement Project
In mid 2020 Atlantis of Kilmore Quay in partnership with Kingfisher Fresh became industry leaders & decided develop & demonstrate their sourcing credentials through the recently established White Fish Fishery Improvement Projects (FIP) programme developed by Bord Iascaigh Mhara.
Fishery Improvement Projects provide a platform for fishermen, seafood buyers and suppliers to develop a strategy to improve a fishery by considering better policies and management over a given time period. Engagement in a FIP allows producers and processors access markets which demand sustainability and environmental credentials. The aim of a FIP is to improve sustainability within a fishery and progress to certification under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
Atlantis Of Kilmore Quay along with Kingfisher Fresh, a number of their FIP registered boats and other stakeholders have committed to improve the sustainability of the Whitefish Fishery in Ireland while;
- Developing it’s sourcing claim credentials.
- Setting continues improvement actions & targets.
- Creating a blockchain system to improve efficient end-to-end traceability, transparency & resilience to failure.
- Provide clear & transparent information.
